Chinese filmmaker Zhang Jiaxin has been hailed as the first Indian director to break into the Hollywood movie industry.
His first film, Sunrise Sacramento, was released in India in May 2018.
Zhang, an associate professor at the University of Delhi, won the prestigious Best Director prize at the Mumbai Film Festival last year.
His next film, Sunrise Savior, was launched in China this month.
Zhong Yufei, the director of Sunrise Savior, said the film was inspired by his own journey through depression.
Sunrise Savior features an Indian-origin Chinese director and cast, and is based on the novel Sunrise by Sunil Bharti.
It tells the story of a couple who is forced to abandon their dream of moving to a US-made condo in China after their son’s death.
The movie was released under a special licensing agreement with the Indian government, with the film set to be released in theatres by the end of 2019.
Sunshine Sacramento was screened at the Film Awards 2017 in New Delhi, India.
Sunset Savior is set to hit the screens in China on November 25, 2019.
